Credit Union Philosophy

Credit Unions are member owned, this means that you are an owner and a share holder in Northern United Federal Credit Union. As a member- owner, you receive benefits based on earnings. These benefits include higher dividends, lower interest rates and newer & better services. We are a not for profit-financial cooperative. We are democratically owned, giving each member one vote. We also have a volunteer board of directors.

What does this mean to you? It means that you have a say in your financial future. You decide our policies, and you determine who invests your money.

If we were asked to define credit union, we would say that a credit union is a member owned not for profit cooperative financial institution formed to permit those in the field of membership specified in its charter to pool their savings, lend funds to each other, and own the organization where they save, borrow and obtain financial related services. Members are united by a common bond and democratically operate the credit union under state or federal regulations.

Why It Matters

Our credit union's purpose is to promote thrift among its members. We take pride in educating our members on how to improve their financial condition through savings, low-cost loans and other financial services allowed by Congress.

Eligibility

You can be a member if you meet any of the following criteria:

Employees of Delta County, Michigan and of cities and towns within Delta County; Employees of the State of Michigan; Civilian and military personnel of the U. S. Government who work in Delta County; Employees, doctors, medical staff members and technicians of OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, MI; Employees of Community Action Agency; Employees of Delta Abstract & Title Co.; Staff and faculty, students of the Escanaba Area Public Schools; Employees of and students of Gladstone Area Schools; Physicians, Nurses and staff of Marquette General Health Systems; Employees of the Central Division of Southern Bell Telephone Co., Western Electric Company, Inc, American Telephone and Telegraph Company & Ameritech, who work in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan; Employees of Canadian National Railway, formerly known as Wisconsin Central, who work in or are supervised from Escanaba or Gladstone; Employees and newspaper carriers of the Escanaba Daily Press or persons employed in the printing industry in Delta County, MI; Employees of CGI ; Spouses of persons who died while in the Field of Membership of this credit union; Persons retired as pensioners or annuitants from the above employment; Members of their immediate families; and organizations of such persons.

We are offering FREE score enhancement to all of our members and potential members.

will go through your report, item by item, line by line, to make sure you know what action you should take to improve your credit, and how to improve your score.
